I get asked many questions such as:
- Where are you from? Lebanon
- Who inspired your cooking? My mum
- At what age did you start cooking? 35
Don’t be fooled by the above, my answers are much longer than a word or two.
Your husband is so lucky to have all your amazing food daily! No. Although that is a statement more than a question, it always comes up after my food demonstrations or catering for a birthday or a get-together and certainly at the end of my po-pup restaurants. The reality is my husband doesn’t like food, doesn’t like flavours and certainly not interested in healthy eating. It is a shock, I know. My customers and friends find it very difficult to believe that.
So the following questions seems to always be – Did you not train him? No
Firstly, my husband is not a pet so he doesn’t need training. He is a mature man who knows what he likes to eat or not. Who am I to tell him what he should eat. Would you like someone else to dictate your food habits?
I believe people should be encouraged to eat a well balanced diet but certainly they can chose what they like or dislike.
Food should be enjoyed and not forced.
How can you manage that while you promote eating well through business?
Easy, I try to hide ingredients he doesn’t like in sauces. So when I roast or stir fry a wide variety of vegetables and herbs for me to eat, I leave a little on the side which I liquidise and add to the tomato sauce and gravy.
Right or wrong? Would love to hear your thoughts.
